This is a sealed (hermetic) reciprocating refrigeration compressor. The motor and compressor sit together inside a welded steel shell, so the unit cannot be opened for repair. It has a suction connection, a discharge connection, an oil sight glass and a terminal box on the side.

It compresses refrigerant gas and keeps the refrigeration cycle running. It is used in ship provision cold rooms, marine refrigeration plants, ship air-conditioning, chillers and shore cold storage.
