This is an electric (electronic) expansion valve for a refrigeration system. It has a compact stainless steel body, two copper solder connections (inlet and outlet) and a round plug-in M12 connector on the side for the control cable.

it use in controls the refrigerant flow into the evaporator, based on signals from a superheat controller and the pressure and temperature sensors. It gives more precise temperature control than a thermostatic (mechanical) expansion valve, and it saves energy.
